KIDULT EMOTION

The work is a surreal expression of our desire to escape from a reality, and nostalgia feeling for childhood imagination and their free-thinking. My methodology was inspired by children’s playful activity. They make something without planning. In fact, they examine material; feel it, and combining it with other materials. The way they work on their art depends on their visual taste, instinct and playful mind than on logicality. Like this, I’ve done playful experiment too. The main tool was vacuum form machine. It was fun to see the flat plastic board makes an interesting shape when the machine compressed with many object underneath the board. I made seven objects from expending form, silicon, paraffin wax, glass wax, plaster and plastics. These materials are unusual choice for textile design. However, I thought the combination of these materials have potentiality to be exotic and original pieces. The shape and pattern created by these materials are not commonly seen in our real life. Therefore it creates a surreal feeling similar to our emotion when seeing children’s art. Jeff Koons who made a huge stainless sculpture of balloon dog, inspired my work. Both adult and children audience can enjoy my work, as it adapts pop-art style and kitsch-style shapes.
